Properly Chilled Review of The New Gold Standard 2

Properly Chilled Review of The New Gold Standard 2

“Fort Knox Recordings is a pretty awesome little label. It was founded by the guys who bring you music as Fort Knox Five, Thunderball, and a few other names, and they jumped into the endeavor knowing that 100% quality is the only way to get things done. Mostly, Fort Knox is a 12″ vinyl single house. Every so often though, they release a full-length, and they even do it on CD sometimes. One such full-length release was the 2006 compilation The New Gold Standard. It showcased the labels current and future talents, and it was in fact pure gold. The Gold Standard series highlight the labels current roster of talent. The second in that series is now out, but how do you maintain such a high standard of quality? Or more importantly, did they?”

“Empresarios is a somewhat new act to make its name extend beyond the DC borders. Among the bands five members is Javier Miranda. Javier has been at the center of DC’s music scene for a while now, touring with Thievery Corporation, contributing to Thomas Blondet’s work on Rhythm & Culture, as well as the work of Farid, Desmond Williams, and Federico Aubele. He also provides live percussion at a number of events going down around DC. Eighteenth Street Lounge is probably the most notable one for those of us outside any intimate involvement in DC’s club scene. There are two tracks from Empresarios on this compilation and they are both incredible Latin jams. I only wish “Sabor Tropical” was a little longer.”

The World Bank would like to invite you to attend a special event on the evening of December 2nd to benefit Metro TeenAIDS (MTA). As part of the World Bank Human Development Network Community Connections Campaign (CCC), we want to raise money to help MTA provide the much needed HIV/AIDS services to DC’s poorest youth.

Many of you already know of the great work Metro TeenAIDS does. They are one of the most well respected nonprofits in DC and considered national and international experts on providing high quality HIV-related services to HIV-positive youth, youth at high risk for HIV/AIDS infection and the children of HIV-infected parents.

You can make a difference! As good Bank citizens and Washington Metropolitan Area neighbors, we have the potential to make a great impact on curbing the HIV epidemic in DC. And as advocates of human development work, Metro TeenAIDS embodies the values we hold most dear.

Investing in our local community feels good, does good and will ensure that the quality of life for all area residents improves. As the third largest employer in Washington DC, the World Bank Group recognizes the individual and corporate responsibility where we live and work. Worldwide Release: Fort Knox Recordings presents THE NEW GOLD STANDARD 2

November 17th, 2009 | By Empresarios

The New Gold Standard 2

http://www.fortknoxrecordings.com

With the likes of Major Lazer, and before them, M.I.A, showing complete disdain for musical boundaries, the time is upon us when the melodic melting pot is the genre. And, as much as London is often touted as a Western frontier for such musical multiculturalism, Washington DC and its continually evolving music scene has been providing the mish mash of cultural influences Stateside.

Fort Knox Recordings, the imprint lovingly tended by funk n beats outfit, the Fort Knox Five, is one of the leading forces in America’s fast rising modern global scene. DC based, they’re bringing together artists and sounds that draw in funk, latin, rock, reggaeton, soca, hip hop, electronica, dub, bhangra, bashment, roots, reggae, indie, jazz, and beyond. The band has also taken this mission to the airwaves, accelerating its appeal with their monthly guest spot on KEXP’s “MoGlo” radio show broadcast out of New York city.

Showcased perfectly on ‘The New Gold Standard 2’, the sequel to 2006 hit compilation, The New Gold Standard, modern global’s protagonists have been selected and compiled by FK5. This new release features freshly-minted sounds from the Fort Knox Five themselves (4 new tracks), International Velvet, Speedy Consuela, Liftoff, See-I, Empresarios, and Nappy Riddem. Further artists and guestspots include Afrika Bambaataa, Frank Mitchell (Thievery Corporation), Asheru (Unspoken Heard, The Boondocks) and many more. See below for the full tracklisting.

ABOUT FORT KNOX FIVE
Sounding like a cosmic by product of George Clinton, Sly & The Family Stone, and Public Enemy, the Fort Knox Five are a live force to be reckoned with, and as in-demand remixers and producers, they’ve worked with artists ranging from Afrika Bambaataa to Bittersweet, Kraak & Smaak to Tito Puente and Bob Marley & the Wailers (sanctioned by the Marley estate, a rare honour). The Fort Knox Five are internationally renowned DJs and were selected by Gwen Stefani for her “Harajuku Lovers” tour with Black Eyed Peas. In the UK, their sets at London’s Fabric have seen them win punter approval, matching the media praise shown by the music press, The Guardian, Metro, and beyond.
